Strategic Plan Goal Area 1: Safe & Thriving

Strategic Plan Outcome: Every student feels safe.
Strategic Plan Measure: Percentage of students attending school regularly.
School “SMART” Goal (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely): Measuring attendance @ 90% better in 2022-2023 was 24.5%. | Goal: At Community School, the regular attenders percentage for the 2023-2024 school year for all students will be at 30% according to ODE’s published results in Sept. of 2024 – 2025.
Strategic Plan Strategy: Implement strong multi-tiered systems of supports for students’ behavioral and social-emotional needs.

Action 1

Action: Students will review attendance and tardy patterns every week in Focus class.
Timeline: Weekly

Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur):
- Improved students attendance from monthly report from 2022-2023 school year compared with 2023-2024 school year

Action 2

Action: The student engagement team will follow up with absent students via phone calls and texts.
Timeline: Daily
Lead Person Responsible: Osheyana Martinez, Attendance Secretary & Lucia Alverez, Community Engagement Liaison
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur):
- Run daily attendance report and automative phone calls home for student absences.
- Emails from attendance staff indicating calls made to families.

Action 3

Action: Focus teachers and the student engagement team will meet quarterly to review attendance patterns for students. These patterns are reviewed with families and used to set attendance goals for the next quarter in conference meetings with Focus teachers, students, and families.
Timeline: quarterly
Lead Person Responsible: Focus teachers, counseling & administrative team, attendance secretary, and community engagement liaison.

- Quarterly attendance reports

Action: Students and families will be recognized for positive attendance and incentives will be in place to support improved and strong attendance patterns.

List of students recognized for good attendance every quarter at Community School.

Action 5

Action: Through a partnership with Urban Gleaners, students have access to food and groceries twice a month on campus.
Timeline: Twice a month
Lead Person Responsible: School social worker, Erin Wirtz
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur): School social worker and admin team will monitor the number of students accessing the food and the amount of food picked up at each subsequent event.

Action 6

Action: Attendance team meets twice month to identify students with patterns of absences.
Timeline: Twice a month
Lead Person Responsible: Assistant Principal, Yuliana Rodarte
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur): Attendance team will track students who received intervention and determine if intervention was effective.

Strategic Plan Goal Area 2: College & Career Ready

Strategic Plan Outcome: All students leave each grade level with a plan and a purpose.
Strategic Plan Measure: Increasing percentage of students on track to graduate during their 9th grade year.
School “SMART” Goal (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely): Measuring attendance @ Oregon Average On Track To Graduate at 9th Grade is 93%. | Community School’s On Track to Graduate at 9th Grade rate last year was 58% | Goal: At Community School On Track to Graduate at 9th Grade 2023-2024 school year will be 85% according to ODE’s published results in Sept. of 2024 – 2025. Additionally, all grade levels will participate in the 9th Grade On Track initiatives to support academic progress.
Strategic Plan Strategy: Fully implemented and consistent student-driven post-secondary plan.

Action 1

Action: The 9th-Grade On-Track Team will meet twice monthly and include all grade levels. Meetings focus on analyzing grades data, and identifying instructional support across content areas.
Timeline: This is a recurring meeting.
Lead Person Responsible: Focus teachers & Assistant Principal, Yuliana Rodarte
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur):
- The 9GS team will track change initiatives taken as staff and look at academic progress of students to determine if change was effective.

Action 2

Action: Students will regularly engage with Lexia PowerUp to support literacy for all Community School students.
Timeline: Weekly goal of 75 minutes in their Focus class.
Lead Person Responsible: Principal, Dr. Jon Sanchez & focus teachers
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur):
- Admin team will monitor the Lexia group report to determine the average number of minutes accessed by students.

Action 3

Action: Students will be provided with Lexia PowerUp Skill lessons, which will be taught by support staff, based on student needs.
Timeline: Once a week for students identified through the Lexia program.
Lead Person Responsible: Intervention team
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur):
- We will measure student individual progress each quarter to assess and adapt to current needs of students.

Action 4

Action: Credit Recovery teachers will work with Freshman students in subsequent quarters to recover targets of failed course(s).
Timeline: Every 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarter during advisory class.
Lead Person Responsible: Credit Recovery Teachers
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur): We will monitor grades each quarter and make interventions based on student needs.

Action 5

Action: We will increase our participation rate for students in 11th grade who are going to take the ACT. We will prep our 11th grade students for the ACT.
Timeline: ACT day is March 12th, 2024.
Lead Person Responsible: All focus teachers
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur): Merlo Station had a 6% participation rate last year and we would like to increase our participation rate to 70% this year for the ACT.

Action 6

Action: We will provide the STAMP and Work Keys proficiency tests to students who need to recover credits.
Timeline: This is ongoing and will happen throughout the school year.
Lead Person Responsible: School counselors
Measures (The quantifiable change in what adult and/or student knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes or beliefs will occur): We are currently working to provide these testing opportunities to all 11th and 12th grade students that need credits.
