What is Community School?
Community School (CS) is one of four Option schools in Beaverton School District, housed on the Merlo Station Campus along with five other specialty programs. Community School is a very small high school specializing in creating an environment for students to Find Where They Belong.
There are several key differences about CS that stand out right away; we have one schedule, no A & B days, our staff all go by their first names; and our classes can range from 10 to 20 students. Students carry Timecards each day to their classes and is an easy way for students to keep track of how they are doing and what they may need to work on.
Each student is assigned to a Focus class (much like a home room) and will in most cases be in this class during their entire time at CS. This class is third period and happens every day.
Our students have said the benefits of attending here are; Better relationships with teachers, no A & B days, more one-on-one with teachers, more independence, more opportunities, teacher, and student equality, more community activities, smaller setting, minimal homework, more credits, less students, Urban Gleaners, and student substance use support!
